New CHT system is INSTALLED!!!

Months of engineering and work have resulted in this mess :-) . Before I cover it all up with wood I wanted to show you what I've got. The new design comes from Nigel Calder's "Boatowner's Mechanical and Electrical Manual." By moving the holding tank input ABOVE the waterline it eliminates several areas that plague traditional systems. This is on the starboard side of the head, where most S-35s have a hanging locker. If you look you can see the tank drain line inside the cabinet. It goes straight out the bottom of the tank to the overboard discharge, gravity fed.

Deanna B on the Baja

Well I am anchored here in the La Paz Harbor.  Deanna B is swinging to a 20 knot wind and a 3 knot current.  They call this the La Paz waltz and it can be a lively dance.  I sailed over from Mazatlan about 12 days ago and hope to be heading out of the harbor to some anchorages in the islands north of here for a couple of days before continuing on to Isla San Fransisco.  From there I will be heading back across the Sea of Cortez to Mazatlan.  That the plan at any rate.  I have been posting the details of the trip on my wife Deanna's blog at

John Brandlmayr built 28' "Novara"

The following was sent to this website's webmaster@ e-mail account. I thought I'd share this with everyone:

Hello Spencer Yachts,

I have been away from BC for many years and have recently returned
and retired in Sooke. I'm thinking of getting back into sailing and have
been looking around at boats. I came upon this site and it triggered
many pleasant memories.

In 1960, when I was 10 years old and our family was living in North
Vancouver, my father, Reg Mullens, bought the 28' sloop Novara. I know

Webmaster's update

For those wondering what is going on with the website and the new individual boat pages, I wanted to bring you up-to-date.

The short story is I have run into a technical problem.

The longer version is that I need to upgrade this website from Drupal 6.xx (which is what it is running on now) to Drupal 7.xx before I can continue the process of creating the individual boat pages.

FINALLY!

Stove works :-) . I threw the old (1963) steel beast out two years ago. The project kept moving to the back burner, but has finally been completed. New stove, completely new propane system, one piece at a time. Yes!

eBay for Boaters

If you're like me, I mean, if you live in a place where it's hard to get certain boat stuff, the internet has created the great equalizer. It's called eBay. No longer do you have to hope the needed stuff is located nearby. With literally millions of users eBay has everything from boats to airplanes and all the parts to build either. The old adage, one man's junk is another man's treasure, never rang truer.

Still sailing south

We we are still sailing.  Or should I say that we are motoring and we have only sailed a couple of times since leaving Mazatlan.  I smilled when I read the form about the trouble of having water coming in the cockpit drains when the boat is sailing with it's rail in the water.  I have not had that problem this year.  Mind you I am not complaining to loudly because we have had 45 knot winds with the waves breaking into the cockpit when the weather has turned bad on us along this coast last year.  If I have to have one or the other calm seas and motoring are no

HA

I was talking to my wife last night, describing the issues I've had and the invaluable advice I've gotten from the members of this group. Reminded me I needed to send out a quick "thanks" to everybody that's offered advice and guidance. Also to share my slip up; when discussing the group I referred to it as my "Spencer Support Group." LOL!

Thought it was funny.

Bilge issues; lost blog

Please see my post regarding bilge / battery issues in the S-35 forum. Need help! Along that vein, I saw someone's blog recently, wherein the person restoring the boat had actually RIPPED UP the cabin sole and replaced it. I'd LOVE to see those photos again, but have since gotten a new computer and lost the link to his blog.

Any help?

Thanks
Mike
